KPS Programme for 2017 – 2018

The society meets most Tuesdays from the beginning of September to the end of April. The only break is for two weeks at Christmas.

New members are always welcome simply turn up on the night or contact the club via our contact page.

September 2017

Date ….. Programme
September 5th Welcome Evening:  Wine & Nibbles & Project title “Mono Images”.  A presentation of members’ digital images displayed in mono.  * Members should note that as the society has now purchased a new projector and all images may be displayed by no more than 1600 pixels wide and no more than 1200 pixels high.
September 12th “Portrait Photography inc Studio Techniques” a presentation by Peter Deegan.  Peter is a portrait photographer based in Holmes Chapel.  Further information about Peter and his work may be found by visiting his website.
September 19th Monthly Club Competition: PDI’s and Prints.  All digital images to be displayed by no more than 1600 pixels wide and no more than 1200 pixels high.
September 26th “A Retrospective look at 40 years as a Photojournalist”  a presentation by Howard Barlow FRPS.  Howard began his career photographing the bands of the 70’s and 80’s with regular publications in NME, Melody Maker and Rolling Stone Magazine.  Presently, Howard lives in Knutsford and is a much sought after photojournalist. For over 30 years he has worked regularly for The Guardian, The Observer, The Telegraph and The Sunday Times. Visit his website for more information.

October 3rd A byte sized talk by Tim Banks, “Aperture & Resolution in Zoom Lenses” followed by a Members’ Evening Project, “Lines & Angles”.
October 10th Monthly Club Competition: PDI’s and Prints.  All digital images to be displayed by no more than 1600 pixels wide and no more than 1200 pixels high.
October 17th L&CPU – Print Folio “A” (Interactive Judging)
October 24th “Raw Nature – Images Uncovered”,  a presentation by Oliver Smart (Smart Images). Oliver is a wildlife photographer and ornithologist whose passion for nature and interest in photography takes him all over the globe capturing the diversity of wildlife from behind the camera. As well as scores of magazine covers, his images have been published in the national press, nature magazines, books and wildlife guides. November 7th  L&CPU – Print Folio “C” (Interactive Judging)
November 14th “Black and White Long Exposures” a presentation by Stephen McNally. Stephen has a passion for landscapes and seascapes.  Based in the North West he is close to the Lake District, Peak District and Snowdonia,  as well as the local coastal regions that the region has to offer.  Information about Stephen, including examples of his work may be found on his website.
November 21st Monthly Club Competition: PDI’s and Prints.  All digital images to be displayed by no more than 1600 pixels wide and no more than 1200 pixels high.
November 28th  A byte sized talk by Mervyn Harrison, “Sharpening” followed by a Members’ Evening Project, “Seven Songs”.

December 5th “ The Lucky Dragon”  a presentation by Margaret Salisbury.  Margaret is well known for her ‘Dragon Signature’ on the back of her prints which earned her the nick name of ‘The Welsh Dragon.’ Based in Prestatyn, she is a member of the North Wales Photographic Association.  Her first love is monochrome landscapes, particularly of North Wales and slate areas. She enjoys expressing herself, and her reactions to strange sights or situations, the bizarre, walls, windows and the way she feels that fantasy and reality are never far apart. Margaret  has traveled all over Britain, Ireland and abroad.   She has taught photography and enjoys passing on her “love” of photography others.  She is able to do this by judging and assessing at local, national and international levels.
December 12th  Christmas Party & PDI Knock-out Competition  “Christmas Crackers” (amusing images).

January 2018

January 9th “Trends and Challenges in Bird Photography” a presentation by Conor Malloy.  Having recently been awarded  an Associate Distinction by the Royal Photographic Society,  Conor Malloy has taken his passion to places such as Hungary, Finland, Romania, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Iceland. Just as important, to many wonderful sites in the UK – the Scottish Highlands, Bempton Cliffs, Morecambe Bay and many reserves around the country.  Tonight he will describe what makes him tick as well as how he has taken many of his wonderful shots that make up his portfolio.

January 23rd Royal Photographic Society (RPS) Folio
January 30th A byte sized talk by Roger Hume, “A Short History of KPS” followed by a Members’ Evening Project,  “Textures”.
